A rule of thumb for working out the height of long vanished, timber posts that once stood in prehistoric circles is to multiply the depth of the post hole by three.
This gives the length of the post above the ground.

- The central post was possibly 10 feet and six inch high.
- F-posts up to 7 and a half foot, in height.
- G-posts up to 15 foot high. With G 3 almost two foot shorter.
- E-posts 15 foot, with the midwinter sun rise (or midsummer full moon rise) post a foot shorter
- D-posts on average 15 foot, but show a difference in size from 9 foot to 16 foot.
- C-posts: shortest post 12 foot, longest 15.
