G-posts. Marked in pale green.
F-posts. Marked by a black spot.
Please note
The plans of the sanctuary may need to be rotated by 13 degrees to align them to True North this is why.
The D post holes are more complex than the diagrams show.
Most of the D positions have more than one hole, suggesting that the timber posts were replaced many times over many years, requiring new holes to be dug close to the original position.
(Reference: Josh Pollard and Mike Pitts excavation in 1999).
The D-post holes are marked on this plan in blue and numbered according to Maud Cunnington's original drawing.
Here is a basic list of what the D post holes contained:

The D post holes are in line with both the F and the G posts.
- The F posts line up with the E posts and D posts to make four avenues.
- The G posts are aligned to a wooden D post, which is then aligned to stone.
- D 5 was aligned to wood, then a burial, and then stone, at an angle of 80 degrees from center.
