The Book of Enoch.

My main interest in the Book of Enoch came from my investigation into John Dee's use of the black mirror, and the nature of the visions described by Edward Kelley and written down by John Dee.

My notes.

The Book of Enoch is the rationale for John Dee's work; it confers authority by providing a religious sanction for communicating with angels, from a source older than the established church.

As I read John Dee's words I could not decide, with absolute certainty if John Dee's communications were more or less audacious for being ostensibly an almost Faustian pact with terrifying forces beyond the realm of the human...or an elaborate cover for cryptography.

After all...
The occult is the secret, the hidden.
The word indicates something occluded

Something covered up.

I think it is highly likely that John Dee was following in the footsteps of Johannes Trithemius, whose book Steganographia (Secret Writing), was written in 1500.

The subject matter: the realm of angels and the possibility of interference seeping in from the infernal regions of the unknown, acted like a force-field, to keep the more credulous away from the work.

John Dee was a clever man; a mathematician and a part of the court of Elizabeth the First, Queen of England. He knew what it was like to be put in prison, he knew the forces of the state to be as lethal and implacable as any angel or demon.

But what -I hear you say- has this to do with archeoastronomy?
To be honest, from my point of view it has nothing at all to do with the creation of passage-graves, or the belief systems of people living in Britain until Christianity was brought this land.

But for anyone who wishes to take Uriel's machine seriously, gaining knowledge is the first step.

The Book of Enoch has been translated here.

The translator introduces it thus:
The Book of Enoch, written during the second century B.C.E., is one of the most important non-canonical apocryphal works, and probably had a huge influence on early Christian, particularly Gnostic, beliefs. Filled with hallucinatory visions of heaven and hell, angels and devils, Enoch introduced concepts such as fallen angels, the appearance of a Messiah, Resurrection, a Final Judgement, and a Heavenly Kingdom on Earth. Interspersed with this material are quasi-scientific digressions on calendrical systems, geography, cosmology, astronomy, and meteorology.
R.H. Charles [1917]

The concept of the world as a machine is explored in Hamlet's Mill- first published by Gambit, Boston, 1969) by Giorgio de Santillana and Hertha von Dechend.

Uriel gives Enoch a book containing the information about the relationships between sun and stars, the winds, plague and floods.

 And he said unto me:
'Observe, Enoch, these heavenly tablets,
And read what is written thereon,
And mark every individual fact.'

The book is a book about the courses of the luminaries of the heaven.

In the book Uriel's Machine: by Knight and Lomas, Bryn Celli Dhu is described as a means of determining when the eight year Venus cycle reoccurs.

"Venus is the most accurate indicator of the time of year in the solar system. Over 5 Venus cycles – i.e. every 40 years – it synchronises the solar calendar, the lunar calendar and the star calendar to within a few seconds. Knowledge of the Venus cycle enables the three main calendars to be regularly realigned and allows detailed predictions of the tides and lunar eclipses to be made".

Unfortunately Bryn Celli Dhu itself, quoted as a location that incorporated astronomical alignments, wasn't simply uncovered. Like so many other Neolithic structures, it is a reconstruction.

It is possible to test the sun alignment.

And proof that such alignments- any alignments- exist always opens up interesting questions.
